We are excited to announce that we are opening up the SS Learning Center Library to our ESs on Monday, Oct 26th. Our librarians are busy unpacking and shelving the remaining curriculum that is in boxes. For the first few weeks, we will only be allowing ESs to visit the library so that we can most efficiently get curriculum and materials out of the library and to our families. On Monday, Nov 16th, we will open up the library to all of our parents. During COVID, we will need to limit the number of visitors in the library and require that parents reserve an appointment time and follow our COVID safety protocol. In early November, we will share those details with you.
We have a library database called Surpass Safari. You can log into Surpass and request curriculum be shipped directly to your house. Your ES can help you with this process. On Monday, Oct 26th, we will resume the direct shipping of library curriculum to parents using Surpass.
Our library was designed so that it can hold a large stream table that we purchased from Little River. This Em4 model simulates stream dynamics and is an excellent way to learn how forces (flood events, erosion, plate tectonics, human intervention) can alter our landscape. We are working on developing some learning activities for our students and we eventually will be hosting some workshops for our students. We are proud to announce that this is the only Em4 stream table in California and the only one that is in a K-12 school in the United States -- all others are at universities.
We look forward to having you visit our new Learning Center in mid-November.
