EL Program Overview
K-8 Designated EL Curriculum: iRead (K-2) and Read 180/System 44 (3-8)

This year, we are continuing Houghton Mifflin Harcourt (HMH) online curriculum titled iRead, Read180, and System 44. These HMH products are formally endorsed by the CDE as research-proven to be effective for EL students. We have allocated Title I funds to pay for this curriculum for our EL students. All identified English Learners must participate in a daily program designed to facilitate the acquisition of the English language. It is recommended that EL students utilize this program for 15 minutes per day/45 minutes per week.
High School Designated ELD Curriculum and Courses; EDGE

The school-sponsored designated EL program is EDGE. This curriculum helps prepare all students for college and career success with dynamic National Geographic content and authentic, multicultural literature.
- Teach with relevant and motivating content.
- Prepare students for Common Core State Standard success.
- Utilize systematic and focused teaching materials.
Twice weekly live support classes via Zoom will be taught by our new EL Instructor, Tammy Walker. The EL Instructor will keep the ES and parent informed on the progress of the student, providing attendance, and outlining skills taught in class.
Integrated Curriculum Supports
EL students must also receive integrated ELD throughout the instructional day. Methods to provide these integrated academic supports include scaffolding, use of context, sentence frames, pre-teaching vocabulary, and various other instructional techniques. Our students are provided with opportunities to meaningfully access all grade-level standards. Below are a few ways that your EL student could receive integrated ELD throughout the entire curriculum.
- AESS
- Reading Coaching sessions for parents of students in TK-5
- Vendor classes offering instruction and enrichment in subject areas
